Everyone can agree that F1 kinda sucks right now. Little passing. Championship given to Mercedes-AMG whatever each year. But I’ve had a drink or two and I know how to fix the problem.....maybe.

Currently team engineers can relay information about the car to the driver. Go slower, get a gap to improve cooling, that one nut has backed off 1/64 of a turn, the driver isn’t farting enough to get an extra boost of speed . This often leads to prematurely pitting the car to prolong the life of the engine . F1 has an engine limit for the season and you get penalties if you go over your allowed number.

But.....and stay with me here....there was no data relay between the team and the car? The driver still has comms with the team but any information they need the driver must relay it to them. Reliability might start to become an issue....but that’s good. Anything to spice up the race. Driver is too agg ressive and cooks the motor...oops. That’s on the driver. Driver can’t successfully diagnose a trans going bad and grenades the thing 2 laps from the end, good!

Anything to give the driver more direct control over their car is good to me.

Anyway, I’m going to eat some dinner and have another drink. Feel free to explain how you are wrong in the comments.

For your time

I suspect it comes down to the question of what F1 is supposed to be: a test bed for technology or the best racing possible?

And that’s as much input as I have, because I’ve never seen a race.

I believe the original premise was the fastest, most technologically advance race car in the world. In reality, all race series should strive to have the best race possible within their set of rules. How you define “best race” is up for debate.

No telemetry at all sent back to the pits, l ike the early 80s? While I guess you could do that, the biggest issue will be safety. If there is a break or fuel or some other issue that could result in an accident, the drivers wouldn’t know. You could have all the info in the cockpit and leave it up to the drivers, but they are already doing so much on those steering wheels....better to have a second set of eyes on the check-engine light at those speeds. Just my .02 cents.

Also n ot good for the teams that are already short on money/resources . They could be out of engines and cash by the fourth race.

I don’t see that many accidents occurr ing. Sure the rare one, but tech inspections exist for a reason. AFAIK NASCAR doesn’t have any telemetry sent back to the pits and they don’t have those issues.

Also not good for the teams that are already short on money/resources. They could be out of engines and cash by the fourth race.

Maybe! Speed vs reliability.

Go back the 5.50x16 tires they ran in the 1950s. Ditch the aero. Just making the cars that much narrower will allow for passing.

Fangio and Moss are fucking legends. Today’s drivers, I could give a shit.

I think the new regs will be f ine. Then again, I’m not in the camp that F1 is always broken. There has been dominance in the past too, as well as races with very little action/passing.

Also, this idea was tried before and all we got was drivers complaining on the radio when complications arose. Rather see cars fight and finish then blow up halfway through.

That would mean going back on tech, something that I’m not too fond of ....Here’s another idea, the only rule is that car has to fit inside a so and so big box and the teams are allowed to spend a fixed amount of money each season. Fixed money for everything, so some may get a Hamilton and spend less money on the car and other will get a Lando and loads on the car.

No regs on what powers the car. Want a turbojet, sure, 2 stroke straight 8, why not!

All the cars need to meet the current safety regs tho...

I feel like this would liven up the season, much more innovation at the very least.
